This Toyota Prado J150 Tear Drop Edition came in with its factory LED headlights showing reduced output. Instead of replacing the complete headlight assemblies, we upgraded the existing units with 90W Triple Cup Reflector Bi-LED Projectors.
The retrofit replaced the ageing factory LED lighting with a new Bi-LED projector setup while keeping the original headlight housings.
The Factory Prado J150 Headlights
The Prado J150 Tear Drop Edition uses an integrated LED headlight system rather than conventional replaceable halogen bulbs. As the original LED units age, their light output can reduce over time.
For this Prado, the solution was to retrofit the headlights with Bi-LED projectors rather than replace the complete assemblies.
90W Triple Cup Reflector Bi-LED Projector Upgrade
We installed 90W Triple Cup Reflector Bi-LED Projector Units into the Prado's original headlight housings. The projectors provide both low and high beam functions. The Triple Cup Reflector design produces a broad beam with a defined cut-off on low beam, while the high beam provides additional reach when required.
The projector setup also gives the headlights a different light pattern from the original factory LED units, with more controlled distribution across the road.
What We Changed
The retrofit involved opening the original headlight assemblies, removing the existing lighting components and installing the Bi-LED projectors. We then sealed the headlights again to maintain their protection against moisture and dust.
After the projectors were installed, we aligned the beams and tested both the low and high beam functions.
The Finished Lighting Setup
With the retrofit complete, the Prado now uses the 90W Triple Cup Reflector Bi-LED Projectors for both low and high beams. The low beam produces a defined cut-off and spreads light across the road ahead, while the high beam provides additional forward reach on darker roads where high beams can be used.
The projector retrofit also keeps the original headlight housing, so the upgrade does not require replacing the complete headlight assembly.
Upgrade Your Prado J150 Headlights
If your Toyota Prado J150 Tear Drop Edition has ageing or dim factory LED headlights, a Bi-LED projector retrofit is an alternative to replacing the complete headlight assembly.
At Frame Frontiers, we can assess the existing headlights, recommend a suitable projector setup and handle the installation, sealing and beam alignment.
