The Toyota Allion in this project came in for a headlight upgrade aimed at improving its visibility on dark roads. Instead of replacing the existing bulbs with brighter ones, the headlights were upgraded with three-cup reflector Bi-LED projectors.
The finished setup delivers a low beam reaching over 300 metres and a high beam extending beyond 500 metres, under suitable road conditions.
Three-Cup Reflector Bi-LED Projectors
The main upgrade on this Allion is the installation of three-cup reflector Bi-LED projectors. Unlike a simple LED bulb replacement, a projector forms and directs the light before it reaches the road. This helps create a more defined beam and makes better use of the available light.
The three-cup reflector design provides a strong forward beam for both low and high beam operation.
Low Beam: Over 300 Metres
The low beam is used for most night-time driving, so its beam pattern needs to provide useful visibility without simply producing excessive brightness.
On this Toyota Allion, the upgraded Bi-LED projectors produce a low beam reaching over 300 metres under suitable conditions.
This gives the driver a longer view of the road ahead, particularly on roads with little or no street lighting. The projector also keeps the light directed forward instead of spreading it randomly inside the headlight housing.
High Beam: Beyond 500 Metres
For darker roads, the high beam provides additional distance and coverage.
The Allion's upgraded Bi-LED projectors produce a high beam reaching beyond 500 metres under suitable road conditions. This is useful when driving on open roads where there is little ambient lighting and a longer view ahead is needed.
The extra reach can be particularly useful on:
- Rural and upcountry roads
- Highways
- Dark stretches without street lighting
- Long-distance night drives
Drivers should still dip their high beams when approaching or following other road users.
Warm White Lighting
The upgraded setup also produces a warm white light, giving the headlights a less bluish appearance than very cool-white lighting.
The warmer output can be useful in conditions such as rain, dust and mist, where maintaining a clear view of the road is more important than simply having a very bright-looking headlight.
Why Use Bi-LED Projectors Instead of Just Brighter Bulbs?
A brighter bulb does not automatically mean better headlights.
The headlight's optical system determines how effectively the light is distributed on the road. A high-output bulb installed in an unsuitable reflector can produce a lot of light inside the housing without putting enough of it where the driver needs it.
With the three-cup Bi-LED projectors installed on this Allion, the light is produced and directed through a dedicated projector system. The result is a stronger forward beam with more defined distribution.
Built for Kenyan Night Driving
The difference becomes more noticeable on roads where street lighting is limited or unavailable.
For an Allion used on highways, rural roads or regular long-distance trips, having more light available farther ahead can make it easier to see the road layout and identify vehicles, pedestrians and other objects earlier.
The finished setup combines the three-cup Bi-LED projectors with a long-range low and high beam, giving the Allion a substantial upgrade over its previous headlight setup.
2-Year Warranty
This Toyota Allion Bi-LED projector upgrade comes with a 2-year warranty.
At Frame Frontiers, headlight upgrades are installed with attention to beam positioning and alignment so that the finished lighting system works properly on the road.
Upgrade Your Toyota Allion
If your Toyota Allion needs better lighting for night driving, a Bi-LED projector upgrade can provide a more complete solution than simply fitting brighter bulbs.
Frame Frontiers provides Bi-LED projector and NaoEvo lighting upgrades for different vehicle applications, with the setup selected according to the vehicle's existing headlights and the driver's requirements.
